Boro brought in former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom last week, with the 24-year-old set to compete with Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher for a starting place at the Riverside.
Yet manager Neil Warnock wants to accommodate four frontmen in his squad during a busy fixture list, which will see Boro play seven games in 22 days between October and November.

One man who has been linked with Boro over the last month is West Brom frontman Kenneth Zohore, with reports suggesting the 26-year-old will leave the Hawthorns on loan.
A move to the Riverside perhaps seems unlikely now Akpom has arrived on Teesside, especially after Warnock said he would probably look to sign a younger striker after landing his No.1 target.
Sheffield Wednesday have been heavily linked with Zohore, who has been left out of West Brom’s squad for their opening two Premier League matches.
Baggies boss Slaven Bilic was asked why a range of players, including Zohore and Charlie Austin, were not involved after Saturday’s 5-2 defeat at Everton.

Boro linked with left-back
One area where Boro do appear to have competition for places is on the left flank, with Marvin Johnson and Hayden Coulson suited to the wing-back role.
Marc Bola also played out wide during Boro’s Carabao Cup game last week, yet, according to TeamTalk, the Teessiders are keeping tabs on another left-sided defender.
It’s been claimed that Wimbledon’s Nesta Guinness-Walker, 20, is attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs and is very high on Brentford's list of targets.

Finally former Boro goalkeeper Harry Flatters has signed for York City until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old, who played for Boro’s youth sides last season, was released by the Teessiders at the end of June.
