Despite the setback, many supporters were encouraged by the result, especially after Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Bristol City.

Here’s how some fans reacted on social media:

@andymacca8: Great start for the boro against a number of the leagues top sides. Nobody is getting ahead of themselves but what Warnock is doing is impressive.

@NealBishop11: 4 points from Cardiff and Bristol, both away. Take that all day long. Warnock showing if you know what you're doing on a training pitch you don’t need wholesale changes.

@kabirdavee: Class week that, 5 points from 3 tough games. 6 unbeaten, win on Tuesday and we’re building some good momentum..

@shanemitchell11: Fair result in the end. Poor second half but will take a point!

@GraemeBandeira: Good work Boro. Take the point and move on. Great week cementing our authority in this league. No longer pushovers.

@Smithy_MFC84: Always disappointing when you’ve been in front, but we’d have taken a point before kick off. That’s us still unbeaten since Watford, and the five points picked up since the international break is a pretty respectable total.

@naywilson96: Sloppy goal to concede but would have definitely taken a point before kick off. UTB

@MikeyHobson3: 4 very good points in two very tough away games. Onwards and upwards

@GBallantyne7: Don't care what anyone says this is a great result!

@wanaldinho: Buzzing with that point. Never an easy team to play Cardiff. Warnock has changed this team for the better. Imagine a team with more strikers and wingers we would be a team no one would want to mess with.

@CragDoll: Honestly, a decent start to the season

@P_Mack10: Superb away point at a tough place

@DailyBoro: Good away point. Not many teams would get 5 points from the past 3 games we’ve had
