Boro opened their 2020/21 campaign with a 4-3 win over Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the competition on Friday night.

Neil Warnock’s side will now turn their attention to this week’s Championship opener against Watford, before the meeting with Barnsley which will be played on either Tuesday, September 15 or Wednesday, September 16.

Should Boro beat the Tykes, the third-round match against Chelsea would be played the following mid-week after a league game with Bournemouth.

Matches will continue to be played behind closed doors until the start of October at the earliest.

@Smithy_MFC84: Definite incentive to take the cup seriously this year. Like I’ve alluded to already, a cup run of sorts could boost flagging fan morale, and an away tie at Stamford Bridge would surely take the excitement levels up a notch or two.
