The former Sunderland forward is a free agent after his contract at the Stadium of Light expired in the summer, after seven years at the club.

Watmore has been training with the Teessiders for the last two weeks, with Warnock keen to sign the 26-year-old on a short-term deal.

Boro probably won’t be able to offer the forward a contract until after next week’s international break.

Following his side’s goalless draw at Blackburn, Warnock was asked if Watmore will continue training with the Teessiders.

“I hope so, I asked him to come in on Thursday,” Warnock replied.
