Following their 10th placed finish in the Championship last season, Neil Warnock has reshaped his side this off-season with 12 new arrivals on Teesside including £6m man Martin Payero and on-loan Sporting Lisbon star Andraz Sporar.
But while a new-look Boro have stuttered in their start to the Championship season, with Warnock’s side sitting 11th ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Kcom Stadium to take on Hull City, we at The Mail thought we would take a look at some of those players to leave the club this summer and see where they’re at now.
There were several surprise exits as Boro have struggled to cope with injuries in the early part of the season, while a one-time club record transfer also ended his stay on Teesside.

5. Sam Morsy - Ipswich Town (undisclosed)
A shock deadline day deal saw Boro midfielder Morsy leave for League One Ipswich having made 36 appearances for Warnock’s side - including five this season. Morsy’s playing time however was set to be cut at the Riverside following the arrival on-loan of Cameroon star James Lea Siliki which led to the 29-year-old moving to Portman Road. Following a successful 2019-20 campaign, where Wing scored seven times for Boro, the midfielder struggled to have as much of an impact at the Riverside the following year before being loaned out to Rotherham United for the remainder of the season. But despite having enjoyed his spell at the New York Stadium Wing was unable to force his way back into Warnock’s plans and has since dropped down to League One with Darren Moore’s Wednesday. Having spent the first part of the 2018-19 season on-loan at the Riverside, Saville made his move from Millwall permanent in January 2019 for a substantial fee of £7m. The midfielder made over 100 appearances for Boro scoring 12 goals in all competitions becoming a key player for Warnock last season before heading back to the Lions this summer in a deal which appeared to suit all parties. Saville has played in all 10 of Millwall’s league games this season and could make a return to the Riverside in November when the two sides meet. The winger ended a four year spell on Teesside this summer after agreeing a deal to move to Sheffield Wednesday. Johnson spent the 2018-19 campaign on-loan at Owls’ rivals Sheffield United but was able to force his way into Warnock’s plans with a number of promising displays as Boro maintained their Championship status. But since then Warnock has been unable to guarantee the 30-year-old regular football before a move to Hillsborough materialised where he has made eight appearances so far this season.
