Here, the Hartlepool Mail takes you through everything you need to know about Boro’s latest transfer target…

SO WHO IS CHARLIE GOODE?

Rather impressively, the £750k-rated defender has worked his way up through non-league and into the EFL.

Goode began his career with Fulham but was released at the age of 15, then spending time with Hadley, Harefield United, AFC Hayes and Hendon before joining League One side Scunthorpe United in 2015.

The 24-year-old then joined Northampton Town in League Two on a permanent deal at the beginning of the 2019/20 season after a successful loan spell the season before.

HAS HE HAD MUCH SUCCESS?

After arriving at the club, Goode was made captain by manager Keith Curle and the pair set about winning promotion to League Two, which was achieved via a play-off final against Exeter City at Wembley.

WHAT TYPE OF CHARACTER IS HE?

Speaking last September ahead of his side’s clash against Goode’s former club Scunthorpe, Curle said: "Charlie had a stuttering career at Scunthorpe. I think he enjoyed his time at the club, and worked with some very good people and he made a lot of friends there.

"That's the type of character he is but for his progression, he wanted to be playing regularly and he wanted to progress as an individual and I think we've seen that.

"He's been nominated for one of the League Two Player of the Month awards which shows he's bringing a level of consistency and a level of aggression and I think it showed last Saturday (against Leyton Orient) that he's a big cog in what we're trying to do."

WHY DOES NEIL WARNOCK WANT TO SIGN HIM?

Well, Middlesbrough’s gaffer does have an eye for lower-league and unknown talent.

At his last club Cardiff, Warnock signed Nathaniel Mendez-Laing from Rochdale, Callum Patterson from Hearts, Neil Etheridge from Walsall and Curtis Nelson from Oxford United.

Warnock likely sees the purchase of Goode as a terrific opportunity to pick up a young and hungry player with a good character and nurture him going forward.
