Neil Warnock gave a run-out to 18 Middlesbrough players as the Teessiders claimed a 1-0 friendly win over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Tuesday.

Britt Assombalonga scored the only goal of the game shortly before half-time when the frontman headed home Marcus Tavernier’s cross.

Some Boro players played the full 90 minutes as they prepare for next month’s season opener against Shrewsbury in the Carabao Cup first round on Friday, September 4.

Dejan Stojanovic, Anfernee Dijksteel, Grant Hall, Paddy McNair, Marvin Johnson, Jonny Howson, George Saville, Hayden Coulson, Tavernier, Ashley Fletcher and Assombalonga all started the game against Plymouth.

Aynsley Pears, Marc Bola, Nathan Wood, Sam Stubbs, Lewis Wing and Marcus Browne also came on later in the match.

Boro will stay in Cornwall to continue their pre-season preparations before travelling back to Teesside on Saturday.

Warnock’s side will then face Newcastle in another friendly at Rockliffe on Tuesday.
