National League clubs set to welcome supporters back to stadiums but no away fans allowed for remaining games and play-offs

For the final two matches of the 2020-21 campaign, fans will return to grounds in limited numbers with no away supporters present.

The National League have confirmed to clubs that away supporters will not be permitted to attend matches at this moment in time with coronavirus restrictions still in place. This also applies for the play-off eliminator and semi-final matches with only home supporters allowed to attend.

As a result, Hartlepool United fans won’t be able to make the journey to South London and attend the crucial National League match at Sutton United on May 22. Instead, live streaming options are expected to remain available for away supporters to access.

Pools fans will however be back at Victoria Park for the final match of the regular season against Weymouth on May 29 (12:30pm kick-off). Ticket details are expected to be released by Pools shortly.

Hartlepool will also likely host a play-off match at Victoria Park but a failure to finish inside the top three would mean a semi-final match away from home without any Poolies present.

The play-off final will take place at a neutral venue with limited fans from both participating clubs allowed to attend. Details of a date and venue are still being finalised.

A National League statement read: “The National League can confirm plans are ongoing for the anticipated return of spectators at Vanarama National League matches from Monday 17th May.

“Subject to the Government easing lockdown restrictions in England, clubs will be issuing details on their media channels for the remaining games of the 2020/21 campaign in due course.

“Clubs have been requested to submit an Operational Plan to The National League for approval. Permission must also be sought from their Local Authority.

“Stadium capacities have been calculated using methodology provided by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) to ensure social distancing is in place.

“Through consultation with its members, The National League has determined only home supporters will be able to attend league matches from May 17th and each of the play-off eliminators and semi-finals.

“The National League looks forward to welcoming supporters back to matches from May 17th.”
