Rhead won the National League with Lincoln City in 2017 and went on to help the Imps to another promotion from League Two as well as an EFL Trophy title.

The 35-year-old striker left Lincoln ahead of the current season to join National League South side Billericay Town before leaving shortly after as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

Rhead has been without a club since but has now joined The Wood until the end of the current season. Luke Garrard’s side currently sit fifth in the fifth tier with 14 games remaining.

Elsewhere, Pools’ Saturday opponents Notts County have strengthened at the back with the one-month loan signing of Adam Long from Wigan Athletic.

The 19-year-old has been a regular feature in the Latics’ under-23s side and will now join up with the Magpies’ squad ahead of their trip to Victoria Park.

Chesterfield have announced that interim manager John Pemberton will remain in charge until the end of the season. The 55-year-old was appointed on a temporary basis in January following the departure of John Sheridan.

Pemberton told the club’s website: “It’s been something that I’ve been gearing up to and it’s something that makes a little bit of sense at the moment. We are working with the players and trying to turn it around. It means everything going forward is as normal.”
