Colback can score more goals for Newcastle

And the Magpies assistant manager admitted Colback’s second-half strike against Everton yesterday left him with an altogether different feeling than that which came with his first career goal at St James’s Park.

Colback was among the scorers in Sunderland’s 3-0 win on Tyneside last season on a bleak day for United.

But his goal in the 3-2 win against Everton created an altogether happier emotion for Newcastle, who moved up to ninth in the Premier League.

United’s coaching staff have been working with Colback over recent weeks on increasing his goal threat, and that paid dividends as he received the ball in the box and rolled it under Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles.

It was the 25-year-old’s first goal since joining Newcastle from Sunderland in the summer, and it proved to be the winner as Alan Pardew’s side took three points for the first time in four league games.

Colback’s strike delighted Newcastle’s staff, and created a newer, happier goalscoring memory for Carver.

He said: “I thought it was fantastic. I was a lot happier than I was the last time he scored at the Gallowgate End! That was pleasing.

“We’ve talked about breaking from midfield and getting into the box.

“When you’re not scoring goals, you look at why you’re not scoring goals.

“But you’ve got to get something from your midfield players.”

It was nice to see him score.

“He has been working to get into the box over the last few games, so when he got in there, he kept his composure and stuck it through the goalie’s legs, which was nice to see.”
