Marveaux is looking for lift-off at Newcastle

The winger is part of Alan Pardew’s French revolution at St James’s Park after joining fellow signings Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Mehdi Abeid and, before them, Hatem Ben Arfa, all French-born.

It is a bold move by the Newcastle boss as he looks to bring European football back to Tyneside in the next couple of seasons.

But Marveaux has bought into the ambition after joining on a free transfer from Rennes.

And while he understands it may take a while for the glory days to return to Newcastle, he believes he can fit in to the style of football Pardew wants to play.

The left-footer said: “We know there is a lot of work to do before we think about Europe, but we are keen to get something started this season and the French players are all determined to be involved in that.

“I have spoken with the manager a lot. From what he says about the way the team will play I think I can ignite the supporters.

“The club wants to do very big things and achieve success, which is why I came here. I came here with the idea of playing in Europe.

“That’s certainly what the long-term vision is.”
