Remy having fan-tastic time in top flight

Cabella joined from Montpellier in the summer in a £7million deal and has had to quickly adapt to the pace and power of English football.

And the 24-year-old, having adjusted to the Premier League, is starting to show why United were so keen to bring him to St James’s Park.

The France international was lively in last weekend’s win over QPR – Newcastle’s sixth successive victory in all competitions – and he will face West Ham United at Upton Park tomorrow.

Cabella feels he has been helped by the encouragement he has got from supporters over the past three months.

“I’m enjoying my football,” Cabella told SportMail. “The football is fantastic and the fans are fantastic.

“I’m very happy to play here, and I hope we continue.

“I like that. It’s important for the players to have the fans behind them. It’s very good.

“We are trying to win for them. It’s fantastic.”

United’s opponents tried to kick slightly-built Cabella off his stride in the early part of the campaign.

But the attacking midfielder believes he is now used to the physicality of the division after a period of adjustment. “In England, the football is very, very physical,” said Cabella.

“I’m very happy, because I’m learning. There are no problems for me. I think you need six months to adapt. It’s different in France.

“I’m not afraid. It’s no problem – I’m confident.”

Pardew has spoken about Cabella’s adjustment to the demands of the top flight.

“I think he’s beginning to understand the intensity of this league,” he said. “Not just the physicality, but the mentality of where you should be on the pitch at a particular time.

“Some of his play has been a bit too central.

“He needs to open up the pitch a little bit at times.”

The QPR victory lifted the Magpies, who is also in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup, up to fifth in the Premier League.

Just over a month ago, Newcastle were languishing in the relegation zone.

But United haven’t looked back since Gabriel Obertan claimed their first league win of the campaign last month.

And Cabella, still looking for his first goal in English football, is hopeful Newcastle can maintain their form over the coming weeks.

“Everybody is happy, because we’re playing well and have won six games,” added Cabella.

“It’s important for us and the fans. It’s good. Now we have to continue. The most important thing is the win – we have been winning match after match.”
