Holohan netted his ninth goal of the season as Pools drew 1-1 with Sutton United at Gander Green Lane. Around 300 travelling Poolies made the journey to South London for what is likely to be their last sight of competitive football for quite a while.

But even in the midst of all the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, Holohan was keen to praise the support shown through a difficult period.

“It’s unreal,” he said. “There’s no stopping them, no coronavirus is going to stop them!”

“They’ve been different class every week, home and away. They’re massive for us and it’s disappointing we couldn’t go out with a win but hopefully they went home happy.”

The Premier League and EFL announced that matches would be suspended until at least April 4 last Friday. The National League initially opted to go against the grain before falling in line on Monday evening.

When discussing Hartlepool’s match going ahead over the weekend, Holohan added: “It’s just a bit of a head-scratcher really with all the other leagues being suspended on Friday but we just had to get on with it.

“We just had to put it to the back of our minds because if you overthink it too much then it will negatively impact your ability to perform.

“It’s a strange time for everyone in football and in the world really.”
