5. Key moment(s): Shotton tackle denies Bradshaw
Both sides had chances to win the game in the final 14 minutes. First Ryan Shotton made a last-ditch challenge to deny Millwall substitute Tom Bradshaw when the forward was clean through on goal. Millwall boss Harris said it should have been a penalty but replays showed the defender made contact with some of the ball. Photo: Frank Reid
6. Key moment(s): Johnson shot blocked on the line
Boro had another penalty appeal in the closing stages when Johnson's shot was blocked by defender Jake Cooper on the line. The defender leaned towards it and, even after several viewings, it wasn't clear if it hit his arm or hip. Even so, a penalty could easily have been given. Photo: Getty Images
7. Tactical battle: A game of two halves
Operating in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Millwall won the midfield battle in the first half, with Connor Mahoney and Aiden O'Brien drifting in from the flanks and causing problems behind giant frontman Matt Smith. Boro responded in the second half, playing more on the front foot, as the introduction of Johnson helped pin the visitors back. Photo: Jan Kruger
8. How the visitors looked: Millwall
For a side who had just been thumped 4-0 at Fulham, the Lions played with confidence and verve in the first half. Neil Harris' side picked their moments to go direct to Smith and played some neat stuff in midfield. They did look vulnerable when Boro applied some second-half pressure though - goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski wasn't tested enough. Photo: Naomi Baker
