Lewis Cass' early red card made it an uphill task for Pools but they were still able to go ahead through Rhys Oates after 33-minutes.
Altrincham drew level on the stroke of half-time as Ryan Colclough’s powerful drive from distance was parried in by Ben Killip.
Pools climb up to second as a result but miss the opportunity to go top of the table.
Here are the Pools player ratings for the evening...

. Ben Killip - 4
Will be very disappointed with Altrincham’s equaliser as he parried the ball into his net but kept a calm head in the second half despite having little to do. Photo: Frank Reid

. David Ferguson - 6
Never had a chance to really get forward and pose a threat but remained organised. Altrincham’s winger Ceesay got the better of him on one occasion but it never came to anything. Photo: Mark Fletcher

. Ryan Johnson - 7
Had a header cleared off the line late on. Defended well as Pools held on for a point. Booked Photo: Mark Fletcher

. Gary Liddle - 8
Made several good blocks and interceptions to help relieve a lot of pressure. Photo: Christopher Booth
