It’s fair to say it hasn’t been the greatest start, with the Teessiders sitting 19th in the table with just two wins so far while performances have been mixed. Our Boro writer Joe Nicholson has ranked each league game in order based on how the side have played. – scroll down and flick through our gallery to see if you agree:
5. Luton: D 3-3 (5th)
If this was based on entertainment, the action-packed draw at Kenilworth Road would have been No 1. Boro looked good going forward but vulnerable at the back in a game which swung back and forth. Photo: Harriet Lander
6. Preston North End: D 1-1 (4th)
Against an in form North End side, Boro created the better chances at the Riverside. The Teessiders looked a threat on the break throughout and responded quickly after falling behind. Photo: PA
7. Brentford: L 1-0 (3rd)
A difficult one to rank as Boro's first-half display was the best they've played all season. Ashley Fletcher had two goals wrongly disallowed before Brentford responded and the hosts faded after half-time. Ollie Watkins' 54th-minute finish was the difference. Photo: Jan Kruger
8. Reading: W 1-0 (2nd)
Boro came under some late pressure against the Royals, when goalkeeper Darren Randolph pulled off some excellent saves. Marvin Johnson's second-half free-kick gave Boro all three points at the Riverside, though, in a game the Teessiders shaded. Photo: Lewis Storey
