The 24-year-old became the first Pools player to score twice on his debut since Ken Ellis in 1971 as the side picked up their first win at Victoria Park since the opening day of the season.
Hartlepool had been struggling for goals up front so far this season with just two goals between all of the side’s forward players prior to Armstrong’s arrival.

"That was exactly what I was after when I was on my way here, to score goals," Armstrong said after the game.
“The gaffer has brought me in to do that and two goals on my debut is ideal.
“They were great crosses and he’s just put it in between the keeper and the defenders and I just had to get on the end of it really. I should have scored first time with the first one but I got a bit of luck and the second one was another great ball into a perfect spot and I just got myself in front.

"It’s great to get back in there and get a win that we needed after Saturday where things were really down afterwards so coming away with three points is just what we need to kick-on now.”
