Seaton Carew Ladies claim Durham FA Womens League 1 Cup after defeating Durham Wildcats

A Lucy Hammond Garrington hat-trick helped Seaton lift the trophy in an emphatic 4-0 win, with Hayley Henderson also on the scoresheet.

Seaton could have easily added further goals against the league winners but, on the whole, a great team performance from Seaton gave them a well-deserved victory.

The match started with a frantic pace and it took 15 minutes before both teams started to settle.

Seaton were at full strength and up for it from the first whistle, but Durham are a young and talented side, players with the potential to progress to the senior team and WSL status.

Both teams were giving it a go, but the defences were on top and chances were few.

Then, in the 40th minute, Lucy Hammond Garrington seized onto an attempted headed back pass after a through ball from Jussy Robinson had caused panic in the Durham defence.

As the goalkeeper approached, Lucy rose bravely and headed the ball past the advancing Durham goalkeper.

The game continued fairly even up to the half-time whistle.

The second-half saw Durham quickly out of the blocks, but with Jo Hurrell marshalling her defence, and some great goalkeeping from Holly Robertson, there was no way past for the Durham attack.

Seaton then began to dominate, The and front two of Lucy Hammon Garrington and Jade Pye were proving a handful.

Some smart play involving Amy Barr, and Sarah Rowbotham saw Lucy presented with a chance inside the penalty area which she duly despatched.

Seaton had their heads up and they were now playing with confidence, creating several good opportunities.

Lucy showed fantastic composure, beating two opponents in the penalty area before sending the keeper the wrong way. A well-deserved hat-trick for Lucy.

Durham had folded and, with 15 minutes remaining, Seaton introduced Becs Smith, Hannah Loveless and Hayley Henderson to the game. The latter making an immediate impact, her first touch was to side oot the ball from 20 yards into the net for 4-0 after the pass of the game from Jussy Robinson had split the Durham defence.
