'Unbelievable Jeff!' – Jeff Stelling, Chris Kamara and Hartlepool United fans react as 4-0 win at Maidenhead United takes them top of the National League table

Dave Challinor’s side have made a perfect start to the 2020-21 campaign with three wins under their belt following a resounding 4-0 triumph at Maidenhead United on Saturday afternoon.

An Alan Massey own goal put Pools 1-0 up at the break before Claudio Ofosu, Ryan Johnson and Gavan Holohan found the net to cap a ruthless second-half display at York Road.

The big win takes Pools top of the National League for the first time since they were relegated to the fifth tier in 2017.

Pools’ club president Jeff Stelling, who was at the game, said: “Great win for Hartlepool United. Three great goals and a fortunate one! Top of the table! I feel dizzy! Thanks to Maidenhead for making the small official Pools contingent so welcome.”

Sky Sports’ Chris Kamara tweeted: "Top of the table, now this is Unbelievable Jeff!”

Stelling’s son Robbie was on commentary duty for the club, he posted: “A great experience and a special day for me. More importantly another massive three points for Pools. Only thing missing was the Poolies in the away end.”

Gavan Holohan tweeted: “Getting back on bus standing over Alex Chandy [Hartlepool media] doing his match report making sure he doesn’t somehow give it to Oatsey again! Great win, 3 from 3, we keep rolling.”

Fan Brian Powell said: “I love Dave and I love this team UTP! Onto Tuesday!”
