The former Newcastle United right-back has won every match he’s played for Pools since joining the club last month.

But there remains uncertainty regarding Sterry’s future at Pools as he’s free to leave with the Football League transfer window open this month.

The 25-year-old is open to staying at the club and manager Dave Challinor is keen to tie him down with conversations ongoing.

And with the side currently sitting second in the National League table, Sterry is desperate to keep improving both individually and as a team with the hope of securing promotion back to the Football League.

“Everybody wants to push on and get promoted so if we just take a game and be satisfied with winning, we can’t be too comfortable and we need to keep improving,” he said.

“We need to get at each other, I know it doesn’t sound nice but it helps us as a team and helps us push on, keep learning. We’re a young team so hopefully we can keep pushing on and keep working hard.

“We want to get promoted so if you let players do what they want and sack it off, and I’m not saying anyone is doing that here, but at other clubs if you just let that happen it’s not right.

"We keep at each other and keep improving. Everybody wants to be better as a player and it’s always better and easier to do that when you’re winning.”
