Eight players were retained, six were offered new deals, two were invited back on trial and 10 were released and free to find new clubs.
But with football shut down, finding a new club in the current climate is proving particularly tricky.
Here is Pools’ 2019-20 squad and what each player’s current situation is:
1. Ben Killip - retained
The Pools goalkeeper signed a two-year deal last summer following his arrival from Braintree Town. He was in and out of the team under Dave Challinor but the Pools boss remains content with his side's goalkeeping situation as he said: "Ben is contracted for next season so our goalkeeping situation isn’t one we need to do anything about." 2. Ryan Donaldson - retained
The Hartlepool club captain agreed a new two-year contract last summer and remains tied to the club ahead of the 2020-21 campaign. On Donaldson, Pools manager Dave Challinor said: "You’ve got to be respected on and off the pitch and players can go to captains with potential problems and make us aware of that and Ryan is brilliant with that. He’s been at the club a long time and divides opinion. People may say he needs to get more goals and things he can do better, for me he’s a manager’s dream." Photo: Jacques Feeney
3. Nicky Featherstone - retained
Arguably Pools' player of the season during the 2019-20 campaign, Featherstone was rewarded for his efforts with a new contract which was agreed back in March and announced the following month. "Nicky is a shining example to the rest of the squad," Challinor said. "We were reaping the rewards of his performances last season and hopefully he can keep pushing on with us." Photo: Matt Bristow
4. Gavan Holohan - retained
Holohan ended the 2019-20 campaign with nine goals to his name from midfield and agreed a new two-year extension prior to the final game of the season at Sutton United. Challinor said: "He can run forward, get into the box and finish and that showed with his goals over the course of the season. Moving forward, if he can continue to be a goalscoring midfield player then it’s something every team is crying out for.” Photo: Paul Paxford
