Hartlepool golfer Graeme Storm second at Porsche European Open in Germany

The Hartlepool golfer arrived on the 17th tee at Bad Griesbach Golf Resort tied for the lead with Jaidee on 17 under par.

Sadly, Storm bogeyed the 178-yard par three to slip back to 16 under.

The 37-year-year-old finished with a par four at the last and needed his rival to bogey the 17th or 18th to set up a play-off.

Jaidee though made no mistake and took pars at the final two holes to win by one stroke and clinch the £245,000 first prize.

Both players had carded four-under-par 67s, the Thai clinching his seventh European title on 267 (17 under), with Storm on 268 (16 under).

Storm, playing in the penultimate group, birdied the third, ninth, 10th, 12th and 15th holes in a super last round.

He had other opportunities for birdie only to leave several putts agonisingly short of the cup.

But his string of birdiers brought him level with Jadiee, who picked up shots at the third, eighth, 12th and 15th.

However, Storm put his tee shot at 17 on the bank of the pond and needed to chip onto the green and took a bogey four.

Sweden’s Pelle Edberg was one stroke further back while England’s Ross Fisher, who partnered Storm in the last round, slipping back to a share of fifth after a 71.

The result though should be good enough for Storm to move into the top 110 on the European Tour’s Order of Merit and retain the Hartlepool Mail Sports Personality of the Year’s place for the 2016 season.
