Oaksway aiming for the top three of Netball’s Premier League 1 after a comfortable win over high-flying New Cambell

It was a welcome return to action for Oaksway who were keen to get back on the court following the postponement of their trip to Team Bath Toucans last weekend.

Despite a slow start from the Hartlepool side, they were able to hold a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Facing a New Cambell side missing a number of their key players, Oaksway were able to put in a dominant performance and led throughout the game.

The Poolies held a three point advantage at half-time but raced away in the second half as they began to convert the chances they had been creating all evening.

With the side holding a comfortable lead, Foreman was able to make a number of changes and experiment with different combinations.

Foreman told SportMail: “We’re just trying to get as many points on the board as possible before the new year.

“The new Super League starts in January and we know there will be an impact on us as our players will be trying to balance both competitions.

“If we can get that balance right and use our other players then hopefully we can finish the season well.

Victory saw Oaksway climb to fifth in Premier League 1 with a game in hand and Foreman admits the side are aiming high: “If we can manage to get something against Team Bath when we play them then that would move us up to third which would be absolutely fantastic.

“One of our managers worked out that if we win all our games we win the league.

“We have the depth in the squad to really push teams.

“A lot of our long away trips are now out of the way as well and if everyone stays fit then we can do really well.

“Finishing in the top three would be fantastic and that’s definitely what we’ll be looking for.”

The side now face a break from action before facing table-topping Academy on January 10, which the coach admits will be a difficult test: “Teams don’t like travelling to the North East which is an advantage for us.

“But Academy will want to win the title so we’ll need to be at our very best.

And Foreman is hoping her side’s successful run will see the people of Hartlepool coming to support them: “We had a great crowd yesterday.

“A lot of our youngsters stayed to watch and hopefully the people of Hartlepool will come to watch this top level netball.”
