It is set to take place on Sunday, September 12, after Covid-19 forced the cancellation of the Great North Run’s 40th anniversary last year.

Hospice fundraiser Nicola Winwood said: “We are overwhelmed with the response from our supporters who are wanting to take on this challenge and raise a much-needed funds for the hospice.

"Due to this, we have been able to secure some extra places to help boost our income.”

Remaining places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
