'Close door to cold callers' say Hartlepool's Trading Standards bosses as they investigate driveway complaints

Hartlepool residents have been urged to say no to cold callers after the town’s Trading Standards officers were passed a number of complaints over offers to lay new driveways.

Hartlepool Borough Council’s team has issued the alert and advice to people following calls of concerns to its department.

A spokesperson said: “Our Trading Standards team is receiving complaints from local residents about doorstep callers trying to sell new driveways or renovate existing ones.

"Our advice is, as always, don’t deal with cold callers.

“If a cold caller won’t leave when asked, call the police.

"Don’t be pressured into signing a contract immediately.

“Don’t sign away your 14 day right to cancel by agreeing for work to be done quickly.

"f you are sure you want or need work doing, shop around and try to get three quotes.”

They added anyone who is experiencing problems can call Trading Standards on (01429) 523 362.
