Hartlepool DIY shop could be split up for new takeaway and four-bed apartment
Proposals have been submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council planning department to carry out the work at 17-21 Vicarage Gardens, at Stranton, off Stockton Road.
The site, which is a combination of three properties, is currently home to Stranton DIY on the ground floor and storage space on the upper two floors.

Hide AdThe application from Ben Talbot is looking to separate number 21 from the other two properties and convert the premises into a hot food takeaway.
The development would also see the upper floors of that building, along with partial areas of number 19 Vicarage Gardens, converted into a four bedroom apartment.
A planning statement from ASP Services in support of the proposals states “it is felt that the development will bring a more efficient use of the site” and is in an “ideal location”.
Documents add Stranton DIY shop will remain in business and be based separately within the ground floor of numbers 17 and 19 Vicarage Gardens and the upper floors of 17 and partial areas of 19.

It adds no “large-scale external alterations or amendments” would be undertaken to the building other than repair and maintenance works required to reinstate the doors and windows to the site.
A decision is expected to be made on the application next month.
