Going on holiday can be very good for your health, both physically and mentally.

I spent last weekend in Cumbria with my partner Caroline. It wasn’t a 2-week tropical holiday on sandy beaches with sun and blue skies, but it definitely helped me de-stress after a really busy few months at work. It allowed me to relax, re-set my mind and body, and now I feel refreshed and more focused.

Here, are some other reasons holidays are healthy for us:

Decrease Stress

If you’re always stressed out because of work and your daily routine, evenings don’t usually offer enough downtime to get rested and relax, However, a short getaway can definitely do the trick and naturally help reduce those issues.

Personal Relationships Grow

One of the biggest impacts on your health is the relationships we have with our loved ones. So, if you get away somewhere with your other half, you can improve your romantic relationship and also improve your health – simply because the both of you are happier in your environment and able to find some time to alone away from routine distractions.

The same goes for your relationships with your children as well. If you take them for an adventure abroad or a weekend away, you will make your bond with them stronger.

Improved Mental Health

Holidays can decrease your chances of depression and other related mental issues. Of course, that might be a result of few different factors, like the Vitamin D from the sun if you go abroad (instead of dark and rainy days at home), or basic time off from stress and routine at home that can help put many of your troubles in perspective.

Increased Productivity

A bit time away from work and home can actually boost your productivity and creativity. Traveling allows us to experience new things, learn new skills, and just enjoy our lives. That all directly influences our view of work and also let’s us come up with new, better ideas. When we don’t take holidays, we can feel ground down, bored or tired, and we just start to hate what we are doing.

Something To Look Forward To

Once you’ve booked a holiday, even waiting to go away makes us feel more satisfied. Having something to look forward to in the future can have a real positive impact on our mental health. It can even improve your work performance because most people like to get things squared off before they leave.

So, don’t wait too long before your next break – it can have a real positive impact on your health!
