Hartlepool Borough Council buys homes on Persimmon Homes’ Greatham Meadow development to boost town's affordable housing stock
Hartlepool’s supply of affordable housing has been boosted by the completion of nine new homes.
Hartlepool Borough Council has purchased the properties at Persimmon Homes’ Greatham Meadow development and will make them available for affordable rent.
The site, when completed, will have 316 new homes with 26 of these classed as affordable.
The full development is part of a wider scheme encompassing 1,260 homes, a new primary school, sports pitches and new open spaces for the public

Councillors Graham Harrison and Rob Darby have visited the development to mark the affordable homes handover.
Cllr Darby, who is chair of Hartlepool Borough Council's housing, growth and communities committee, said: “Increasing the supply of affordable homes for Hartlepool residents remains a major priority for the Council, so we are delighted to be working closely with Persimmon Teesside to deliver these much-needed properties.
“We are determined to expand the range of housing options available across the borough and ensure that local people have access to high-quality homes that meet their needs.
“These new properties are a valuable addition to our housing stock and further evidence of our commitment to creating stronger, sustainable communities for current and future generations."
Martin Mowbray, Persimmon Teesside’s land director, said: “Greatham Meadow is delivering high-quality new homes for the local community and we are delighted to be working with the council to build these new, affordable rent properties.
“It was a pleasure to host Councillor Harrison and Councillor Darby at our development and brief them on the progress already made.
“These homes form a key part of our broader goal to create a positive and lasting legacy wherever we build.”
