Hartlepool United's new predicted National League finish after Boreham Wood loss
The latest predicted final National League does not make for positive reading for Hartlepool United fans.
Hartlepool United were unable to gain any reward for a promising performance on Saturday as they fell to an agonising late defeat against National League leaders and title favourites Boreham Wood.
A penalty from Danny Cashman and a goal from former Gateshead midfielder Tom White put the current frontrunners in full control by the time the half-time whistle had been blown at Meadow Park. To their credit, Pools rallied and produced an outstanding comeback within 15 minutes of the restart as goals from Max Kouogun and Cole Deeming got them back on level-terms before a stunning long-range effort from Jamie Miley put Pete Wild’s men in front for the first time in the game.
However, the hosts stayed in the game until the final stages and appeared to have snatched a point when Zak Brunt restored parity three minutes from time. Luke Garrard’s side secured an even more lucrative reward when they secured all three points deep in injury-time as top goalscorer Matt Rush celebrated his return to fitness by scoring the winning goal.
The defeat in the capital left Pools back in the National League relegation zone - and although there were positives to take from the defeat, the cold truth is that Wild and his players still have a lot of work to do as they look to move away from the bottom four and secure their status in the top tier of the non-league game.
But where are Pools predicted to finish in the table? We take a look at the latest predicted final National League table put together by FWP - and it does not make for good reading for Poolies.
