Attempted murder probe: Neighbours heard sound 'like a bomb going off' after man was knocked down and car smashed into wall

The structure facing onto the back lane of Romaine Park, of West View Road in Hartlepool, has been left wrecked by the impact of the crash, which has left a 29-year-old with serious leg injuries and minor chest injuries.
Cleveland Police has confirmed two men, aged 21 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody as inquiries continue.

Hide AdA cordon put up in the aftermath of the incident was taken down at around 4pm today, as police finally left the scene, which was taped off from a grassed area off West View Road to Shields Terrace.
One 65-year-old woman who lives close to the spot said: “We were just watching The Voice when we heard this noise, and it sounds daft, but it was like a bomb going off, it was just this loud thud.
"We heard people shouting and when we went to see what had happened, we saw the wall was all smashed in.

Hide Ad"The police and ambulance turned up and then started taping it all off and they’ve been around today asking questions.
"It’s awful what’s happened.”
A man who also lives near the lane added: “I was just watching telly and I heard this massive bang, it was really big.
"When I came out to see what it was, I could see a lad on the ground and loads of people all around him.
"I hope he’s alright.”
A spokesperson for NEAS said: “We were called at 19.28 on Saturday to treat a man who had been involved in a collision with a car and suffered leg injuries.
