Uninsured car seized by police in Hartlepool after concerns over lockdown breach

A lockdown rules reminder has been shared by police after they seized an uninsured car from three men.

The Vauxhall Astra was taken away after checks by Hartlepool Neighbourhood Policing Team during a patrol of the Manor House area.

The officers had cause to stop the three men in the car “with regards to potentially being in breach of the national lockdown” with the driver now due to answer a number of motoring offences.

A team spokesperson added: “Officers conducted inquiries with regards to the vehicle it was apparent that not only did the vehicle have no insurance but the driver had no licence.

“The vehicle was seized and the driver reported for driving offences.

“The message is clear, stay at home, don’t make unnecessary journeys and if you have no alternative but to travel in your vehicle, make sure you have a licence and are appropriately insured.”

The car was seized on the night of Friday, January 22.
