County Durham's Wellfield Community School ‘incredibly proud’ of latest Ofsted report
A secondary school is celebrating following the release of its latest Ofsted report.
Wellfield School, in Wingate, received “expected standard” in all areas, including achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance and personal development and wellbeing.
According to Ofsted inspectors, pupils at Wellfield “generally feel proud” to be part of the school community.
The report states: “Pupils treat each other with respect. There are clear rules in place that pupils generally think are fair.

"School leaders closely monitor behaviour and make sure that more serious behaviour, like bullying, is quickly dealt with. This means that pupils feel safe.”
Pupils also take part in a range of extracurricular activities, including singing in concerts at Durham Cathedral and preparing for an expedition to South Africa.
The report states: “Leaders use funding to ensure that disadvantaged pupils can access the same opportunities as their peers.
"Pupils receive helpful careers information, advice and guidance.

"Almost all pupils move on to next steps that match their interests and abilities.”
The school was given three areas to improve in, including continuing to improve the attendance of pupils and to regularly check pupils’ understanding to address any gaps in knowledge.
The report continues: “Leaders should ensure that teachers consistently adapt their teaching to remove barriers for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities and other disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils so that they make similar progress to their peers.”
Headteacher Louise Colquhoun said: “This report is a positive reflection of the progress we have made together as a school community.
"It was particularly pleasing to see inspectors recognise that our pupils achieve well, behave well, feel safe and are proud to be part of Wellfield, as well as the improvements we have made in teaching, attendance and outcomes.
The report highlights the significant positive impact of our work to improve attendance and recognises the strong support we provide for disadvantaged pupils.
"Most importantly, it reflects the hard work, commitment and care shown every day by our pupils, staff, parents and carers.
“We are proud of what we have achieved together but our focus remains firmly on the future.
"We have a clear direction for Wellfield and look forward to building on this progress and continuing to provide the very best opportunities for our pupils.”
