Drivers face lane closures on Hartlepool’s A689 and A19 as essential works begin

Motorists could face delays over the next two weeks as vital maintenance works are carried out along Hartlepool’s A689 and the A19.

Lane closures will be in place between Truro Drive, in Hartlepool, and the Wolviston roundabout this week as essential maintenance works are carried out.

Work will continue into next week on the section of road west of the A19 through to the Durham County Council boundary.

Alternate inside and outside lane closures will be in place on both carriageways so the work can be carried out safely.

Motorists could face delays over the coming weeks as vital maintenance works are carried out along Hartlepool’s A689 and the A19.

These works include grass cutting, weed spraying, tree trimming, white line refreshes, road sweeping, litter picking and work to traffic signals.

The roadworks were announced by Hartlepool Borough Council on Wednesday, November 4, and are expected to last two weeks.

In a further effort to reduce disruption, external organisations are being given the opportunity to carry out their own work while the traffic management measures are already in place.

This will help minimise the need for additional lane closures and traffic restrictions at a later date.

Councillor Amanda Napper, chair of the council's neighbourhoods and regulatory services committee, said: "The A689 is one of the main gateways into and out of Hartlepool, so it's vital that we carry out regular maintenance to keep it safe, efficient and looking its best.

"While we appreciate that roadworks can sometimes cause inconvenience, we've carefully planned these works to take place outside the busiest times of day and have worked with utility companies to make the most of the traffic management arrangements already in place.

"These improvements will help maintain a key route for residents, businesses and visitors while reducing the need for further disruption in the future.

"I'd like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding while this important work is carried out."

These roadworks are being carried out to enhance safety and improve conditions for thousands of drivers using these routes every day.

The maintenance programme forms part of Hartlepool Borough Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining the borough's highways infrastructure and ensuring the road network remains safe and reliable for all users.
