Golfers turned out in force and raised more than £40,000 to help transform lives in a new charity event.

Organisers of the first ever UchangeLives Golf Day held at Seaton Carew Golf Club have thanked supporters for making the event such a huge success.

Hartlepool-based charity The PFC Trust worked together with North East STEM Foundation to bring supporters, businesses and community members together for a fun-filled day.

Liverpool FC and England legend John Barnes, who has supported the PFC Trust in the past, attended to hand out prizes.

Frances Connolly, founder of the PFC Trust, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the success of our first UChangeLives Golf Day. The support we’ve received from local businesses, volunteers, and participants has been overwhelming.

“This event is a reminder of what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared goal of making a positive impact.

Hartlepool charity The PFC Trust reaches the million-pound milestone in donation...

The day last Wednesday saw 19 teams of four compete on one of the oldest and top-rated golf courses in England.

The winning team from Verso Financial Management, led by Seaton Carew Golf Club’s own captain Phil Cain, claimed the first prize of a four-day stay at next year’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

However, a £25,000 car from Bristol Street Motors for a hole-in-one at the sixth hole was not won.

The money raised will help the PFC Trust continue its work supporting people and organisations in the area, while the North East STEM Foundation will use the proceeds to promote educational opportunities for young people in STEM subjects.

Tania Cooper, chair of the North East STEM Foundation, said: “It was a fantastic day, the weather was perfect and it is a fantastic initiative. The funds raised will make a tangible difference to the lives of young people here in the North East."

Frances also thanked Paul Fraser from PR company Rephrase for the idea of the golf day and to Seaton Carew Golf Club for their fantastic hospitality.
