Hartlepool Borough Council announces return of free town centre parking in the run-up to Christmas
Free parking in Hartlepool town centre in the run-up to Christmas has been reinstated by council chiefs after previously being scrapped in cost saving measures.
The initiative was stopped as part of budget measures put forward by the previous Labour-led administration on Hartlepool Borough Council.

But new Reform leaders have announced that free weekend town centre parking is back to support local businesses and help residents.
Parking in Hartlepool Borough Council-managed short stay town centre car parks will be free every weekend from Sunday, November 8, until Sunday, December 20.
The scheme aims to encourage more people to visit the town centre, support local businesses and make the most of Hartlepool's festive offer.
It applies in the Basement Car Park, East Side Car Park, Roker Street Car Park, Waldon Street Car Park and West Side Car Park.
Council leader Councillor Dave Bruce said: “While the Council continues to face significant financial challenges, we remain committed to supporting our local economy and helping our town centre to thrive.
“The return of free weekend parking is a practical way of encouraging more people to visit the town centre, particularly during the important Christmas trading period.
“We're backing our retailers this Christmas and I would encourage residents to take advantage of the scheme and support local businesses. By shopping locally, people can help support jobs, investment and the continued success of Hartlepool town centre.”
The initiative will come into effect on Remembrance Sunday, allowing veterans and local people to park for free when attending the Remembrance Service in Victory Square.
