Hartlepool's Eskdale Academy launches town's first speech and language provision

A Hartlepool primary school has launched the town’s first speech and language provision for pupils across the borough.

Eskdale Academy, in Eskdale Road, Hartlepool, has launched the provision for up to ten children at a time aged five to seven from across the town’s schools.

The course is designed to support children with specific speech and language needs, with pupils able to stay on the programme for up to two years.

Staff members Stephanie Thomas and Louise Cram work closely with speech therapists to guide and personalise the provision for each child.

Head of school at Eskdale Academy, Anthony Emms, said: “I fully support this kind of environment that targets children’s specific needs – it helps allow for their full potential.”

Pupils on the programme are given lessons in speech, language and communication, as well as literacy and numeracy.

Parents and guardians interested in the programme should contact their child’s own school for more information.
