Organiser Abigail Anderson, 25, has said the wartime theme was picked in the hope of renewing appreciation for the historical period.

"It’s not done much anymore, a lot of people don’t focus anymore on the good things that came out of it, for example the music, the sense of morale,” said Abigail, who teaches English at Dyke House Academy.

She added: "It’s a great opportunity for families to get involved, you can get dressed up, have a sing along.”

Abigail held a similar event back in 2018 at the Avenue Ballroom, in Lauder Street. It proved a hit with people asking for a follow-up before Covid put it on hold.

Abigail, who has been volunteering for Hartlepool Ambulance Charity for three years now, said: “It’s just raising that money to make sure that our money stays in the community in Hartlepool and we are looking after Hartlepool.”

She added: "I just think it’s a massive thing that we need in Hartlepool. If we can help each other I don’t see why we shouldn’t.

"I’ve always fundraised for everything since I was little. I have done all sorts of different events.
