A19 drivers hit by delays after collision near Hartlepool leaves road partially blocked

The crash on the northbound side of the road, between the A179 at Sheraton and the A181 Castle Eden Interchange, happened shortly after 7am today, Wednesday, February 3.

Delays of around 20 minutes have been reported by the AA, while there are also issues on the same side of the carriageway between Coal Lane and Headshope Cottages, where delays of around 24 minutes have been reported, with traffic speed down to 5mph.

It comes as Cleveland Police issued an alert for drivers due to standing water, urging them to take care due to the wet conditions, with a yellow weather warning still in place by the Met Office.

Motorists heading further north towards Sunderland have also been warned of delays and diversions after Northumbria Police closed off the sliproad to the A690 Durham Road due to flooding.
