Echo readers have given the thumbs up to news that Dalton Park's new cinema will open within weeks.

Cineworld has confirmed its latest complex will open at the Murton retail park on Friday, September 9, creating 30 jobs.

The development is part of a £45million expansion of the centre.

The cinema will feature seven screens and a total of 1,000 seats, with bosses promising they will bring the latest Hollywood releases to the venue.

The venue is part of the phase two extension to the shopping outlet and will join the newly opened Pizza Express, Frankie and Benny’s and a KFC drive-thru, which have created 50 jobs,

Visitors to the Echo’s Facebook page are looking forward to the big opening.

Cheyenne Thorius wrote: “so excited for this place to open,” while Laura Turnbull said “we’ll have to go when it opens,” and Valerie Olley had just one word to describe her feelings: “Yippee.”

Georgia Fuller is looking forward to having a cinema close to home: “one closer than Sunderland, better than Durham and hopefully less scary than Darlington,” she wrote.

But Sophie Alexandra Wiseman had culinary matters on her mind: “Why build a pictures with no Nandos near?!” she asked.

“Devastated!”

Nick Bashford, Cineworld Dalton Park’s general manager, said: “We’re delighted about the opening of Cineworld Dalton Park. We have such an exciting line-up of films coming up, like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Stars Wars: Rogue One, and look forward to welcoming the community to share our passion for film.”

He said cinema fans would be able to take advantage of a range of offers at Cineworld Dalton Park including weekly discounted Movies for Juniors screenings for just £2 on Saturdays, Sundays and during school holidays, as well as Student NUS discount. The cinema is also available for private venue hire.
