Hartlepool United were beaten 1-0 at Bromley on bank holiday Monday.

Jude Arthurs’ first half header was enough to secure victory for the play-off chasing Ravens and put a huge dint in Pools title hopes.

Dave Challinor’s side now sit fourth in the National League table and six points behind leaders Torquay United following a busy bank holiday schedule.

Could Pools go top today?

Well, yes but it’s unlikely.

For Pools to return to the top of the table they will have to beat Bromley and Torquay United would have to lose at Chesterfield with a five goal difference swing (ie Pools win 3-0, Torquay lose 2-0).

Second placed Sutton United aren’t in action until tomorrow night either so they will have two games in hand following this afternoon’s results.

Just two changes for Pools

After beating Chesterfield 3-1 less than 48-hours earlier on Saturday evening, Pools boss Dave Challinor hinted that he would be making some changes to his starting line-up against The Ravens.

And that he did as captain Ryan Donaldson returned for only his second start of 2021 and Fleetwood Town loanee Harvey Saunders made his full debut after coming off the bench on Saturday.

Lewis Cass dropped out with a knee injury and Rhys Oates dropped to the bench despite scoring against The Spireites.

Luke Molyneux also made a return to the bench as Pools’ side wasn’t altered quite as significantly as expected given the short turnaround.

Last time the sides met - Pools 0-0 Bromley

The opening weeks of the National League season saw Pools frustrated at home to Bromley as their perfect start to the campaign came to an end.

Despite dropping points for the first time in 2020-21, Dave Challinor labelled the performance as Pools’ best of the season until that point as they created numerous chances against The Ravens at Victoria Park but couldn’t put any away.
