The 21-year-old goalkeeper joins as cover for Henrich Ravas with number one Ben Killip ruled out for the remainder of the season with an elbow injury.

Pools boss Dave Challinor told The Mail that bringing in goalkeeper cover was a priority ahead of the player registration deadline at 5pm on Thursday.

After progressing through the ranks at Boro, James spent last season on loan at Gateshead in the National League North where he made 33 appearances in all competitions. His most notable contribution for the Heed came in the play-offs as he saved three penalties in a shoot out at Brackley to help the side progress to the semi-finals.
