After a fairly even first half, the Exiles asserted themselves after the break with Graham Coughlan’s side looking the most likely to make the breakthrough.
And much like Hartlepool experienced in their favour against AFC Wimbldeon, here they were on the receiving end as Mickey Demetriou headed in from a stoppage time corner.
And here is how Pools fared in another disappointing evening:
9. Dan Kemp - 6
Buzzed around plenty. One or two decent exchanges with Jennings. Had a decent opportunity from Ferguson cross in the second half but Pools struggled to get him involved enough in dangerous areas. (Photo: Mark Fletcher | MI News) Photo: Mark Fletcher
10. Connor Jennings - 6
Teed up Kemp on a couple of occasions in the first half. Fired high and wide with his one opportunity in the second half. Booked. (Photo: Mark Fletcher | MI News) Photo: Mark Fletcher
11. Josh Umerah - 5
Got involved in another wrestling match at times with Newport defence and came out on the wrong end of it. Frustrating night for him. (Photo: Mark Fletcher | MI News) Photo: Mark Fletcher
12. Leon Clarke - 5
Brought on at half-time but rarely involved. Was unable to hold it up for Hartlepool as Newport improved after the break. (Photo: Federico Guerra Maranesi | MI News) Photo: Federico Guerra Maranesi
