Ex-Hartlepool United non-executive director appointed new Aberdeen chief executive.
Aberdeen have appointed former Hartlepool United non-executive director Adrian Bevington as their new chief executive – less than 24 hours after announcing the departure of Alan Burrows.
Former Football Association communications director Bevington will start his role immediately. The club announced on Tuesday that Burrows was stepping down for “family reasons”.
Bevington started his career in football as a media officer with Middlesbrough before joining the communications department of the FA, where he moved into more wide-ranging and senior positions during a 17-year spell. He served as managing director of England’s national teams.
After leaving the FA in 2014, he worked as an executive consultant with the likes of Aston Vila and Nottingham Forest and had another spell with Middlesbrough, working as head of recruitment operations, where he helped shape the club’s football strategy.
Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack said: “I’ve known Adrian for many years, and he has always impressed me with his calm and clear thinking about the game, as well as his ability to handle a high-profile role as a chief executive in professional football.
“The board’s belief that he possesses the passion, leadership qualities, understanding of the game, commercial acumen and communication skills required for the role was reinforced by his impeccable references from across the highest levels of the sport. “He was an outstanding candidate, and he has all the credentials needed to drive Aberdeen Football Club forward as our chief executive.”
Bevington, who also had a spell as a non-executive director of Hartlepool United, described his new role as an “exciting opportunity”.
The 55-year-old added: “My wife and I are looking forward to relocating to Aberdeen and getting to know everyone connected with the club, particularly the loyal supporters, commercial partners, stakeholders and the wider community.
“Aberdeen FC means so much to so many people, and I’m excited to immerse myself in the city and build strong relationships across all areas of the business. “I’ve been really impressed by the ambition of the board and am determined to do all I can to help the club succeed both on and off the pitch.”
