Lee Clark reveals training ground plan for Hartlepool United forwards ahead of Kidderminster Harriers clash
Lee Clark has a message for his Hartlepool United strikers ahead of Kidderminster Harriers.
Lee Clark has revealed Pools have intensified their finishing drills on the training ground this week but insists he is ‘super confident’ his Hartlepool United forwards will fire this season.
Goals have been hard to come by for the Pools frontline but Chris Popov got his first of the season in the 1-0 win over Woking at The Vic last weekend and Clark is hoping there is more to come ahead of tonight’s game at Kidderminster Harriers. Pools are 11th in the National League six games in with three wins and three defeats to their name but only five goals scored.
While it remains a team responsibility to boost the goalscoring table, Clark has revealed the hard work has been ongoing this week at the club’s training ground with forwards Will Harris, Popov, Jordan Hugill and Terry Bondo.
Clark, speaking at his pre-match press conference at Maiden Castle in Durham, told the Mail: “All four have got different solutions and different assets and I'm super confident in all four of them. They've all made impacts over the course of the season in various different ways.
“I think it is a confidence. I think the strikers are desperate to score. But what I like about the strikers we've got, they've got that striker mentality where they're still getting in the positions, they're getting the chances, they're not hiding and they're not worried about missing them. “I think when you look back on any goalscorers, strikers who are good top goalscorers, you look and they'll miss a fair share of chances. It's that mentality that it doesn't worry them. The next one will become a goal. So yeah, we've intensified the work on the finishing this week.
“We've obviously been working on it all pre-season, during the season, but we've just intensified it a little bit because our defensive work's top. We just want to be a bit more clinical, a bit more ruthless in the final third.”
