Josh Umerah cancelled out Tyler Magloire’s opening goal for the Cobblers with Pools’ first goal of the season when he bundled in on the goal line before Louis Appere converted from close range early in the second half to claim all three points for the home side.
Pools might have come away with a point but for a fine save from Lee Burge to deny Umerah.
And here is how Pools were rated in defeat.

Reasonably steady afternoon after early warning signs up against Pinnock. Managed to control the Northampton threat down the right in the second half better. (Credit: John Cripps | MI News) Photo: John Cripps
6. David Ferguson - 6
Got forward well and was unfortunate not to score in the first half having made a good run into the area. Also had an opportunity in the second before Umerah brought a save from Burge. (Credit: John Cripps | MI News) Photo: John Cripps
7. Mohamad Sylla - 7
Strong showing on first start in the league. Got to grips with the midfield quickly and anchored Pools well, driving them forward when he could. (Credit: John Cripps | MI News) Photo: John Cripps
8. Nicky Featherstone - 6
A little quiet at times but kept things simple in the middle. Seemed a little more comfortable alongside Sylla. (Credit: Mark Fletcher | MI News) Photo: Mark Fletcher
