Boro were assessing several targets last month and eventually signed five new players, Patrick Roberts, Lukas Nmecha, Dejan Stojanovic, Harold Moukoudi and Ravel Morrison, before last week’s deadline. We take a look at what happened to the other names that were said to be on the Teessiders’ radar – scroll down and flick through our picture gallery to find out:
9. Lawrence Shankland
Another striker whose name was briefly mentioned. Shankland has scored 22 goals in 20 games for Scottish Championship side Dundee which has inevitably attracted attention. The 24-year-old stayed at Tannadice Park though. Photo: Ian MacNicol
10. Jack Clarke
A player who Woodgate admitted he liked but said it was unlikely he'd sign for Boro. Clarke returned to parent club Tottenham following a loan spell at Leeds and then joined QPR on loan until the end of the season. Photo: George Wood
11. James Chester
The experienced defender had fallen down the pecking order at Aston Villa and seemed like a good option for Championship clubs. Stoke won the race to sign the Welsh international on loan until the end of the season. Photo: Shaun Botterill
12. Sam Cosgrove
Reports in Scotland claimed Boro assistant Robbie Keane went to watch the Aberdeen frontman back in December. Cosgrove has scored 11 SPL goals for the Dons this season yet Boro now appear well stocked in the striker department. Photo: Ian MacNicol
