A total of eight senior players will see their current deals expire at the end of June, while a further three are only contracted to Boro on loan.
We take a closer look at the contractual situation of 11 Boro players who face an uncertain future on Teesside – scroll down and flick through the pages to see them:
1. Jonny Howson - out of contract this summer
Woodgate has confidently said he expects the 31-year-old to sign a new deal at the Riverside. Howson has been Boro's most consistent performer this term while regularly switching from one position to another. Photo: Richard Sellers
2. George Friend - out of contract this summer
Another player Woodgate has repeatedly praised for his work ethic and professionalism. The Boro boss would also like Friend to stay at the Riverside, yet his ongoing injury setback complicates the matter. Now 32, the defender has made just five Championship appearances this season and will be one of the higher earners at the club. Photo: George Wood
3. Daniel Ayala - out of contract this summer
Boro have tried to negotiate a new deal with the Spaniard who has also said he wants to stay. It's clear Ayala will have to take a wage cut to stay on Teesside, though, while plenty of Championship clubs would be interested in the centre-back. Photo: Dave Howarth
4. Marvin Johnson - out of contract this summer
Boro may want to prioritise other options, yet Johnson has been a useful asset this season and would probably need replacing if he does depart. A new deal could also be affordable so it's not out of the question that the 29-year-old could stay. Photo: Lewis Storey
