Goals from Rhys Oates, a Josef Yarney own goal and another from Luke Armstrong in the first half were enough to seal the three points for Pools despite former defender Fraser Kerr pulling a goal back for Chesterfield in the second half.

The win keeps Pools third in the table going into the bank holiday Monday match at Bromley (3pm kick-off).

41: Rowe comes close at the other end!

A WELL WORKED GOAL! 2-0

Gary Liddle does brilliantly to find Jamie Sterry down the right who has plenty of space to get the ball across goal. The Pools right-back tries to find Armstrong but Josef Yarney slides the ball into his own net in an attempt to intercept.

GOOAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! OWN GOAL! 2-0 POOLS

Dominic Scurr’s verdict - 35 minutes

The game is there to be won for Pools this evening. Chesterfield shaky at the back and not offering a lot going forward so far. But with Danny Rowe up front, they’ll always have a chance while the score remains 1-0.

A second goal, ideally before half-time, would be key for Pools.

34: Sterry’s cross from the right misses the head of Ferguson

Chesterfield goal kick.

32: Sterry does well to dispossess Kerr in a dangerous area

Sterry wins the ball back and finds Liddle whose cross from the right just misses Armstrong as he attempts to slide in.

29: Holohan surges forward before over-hitting a pass

Plenty of pace as Holohan bursts into the final third before getting his final ball all wrong as it bobbles up and it’s over-hit for a Chesterfield goal kick.

27: Penalty shout for Pools!

Mark Shelton goes down in the penalty area but it’s waved away before Rhys Oates gets a curling shot away from the edge of the box which goes wide of the right post.

26: Chesterfield win a free-kick but it comes to nothing

Joel Taylor’s free-kick is collected by Ravas.

25: Nicky Featherstone letting his thoughts be known to the Pools players

Hartlepool’s captain for the day just telling Rhys Oates to ‘slow things down’ after conceding a throw-in.
