Hartlepool United made it 16 games unbeaten in the National League with a 3-1 victory over Chesterfield at Victoria Park.

Goals from Rhys Oates, a Josef Yarney own goal and another from Luke Armstrong in the first half were enough to seal the three points for Pools despite former defender Fraser Kerr pulling a goal back for Chesterfield in the second half.

The win keeps Pools third in the table going into the bank holiday Monday match at Bromley (3pm kick-off).

23: Rowe heads the corner clear

Rhys Oates runs to collect the headed clearance and Pools remain on the attack with a throw-in.

22: Shelton wins a corner for Pools

More good work down the right. It lead to the first goal, can it lead to the second?

20: Still 1-0 to Pools here

Chesterfield yet to create anything so far as Pools are managing their lead well and looking to extend it. Jamie Sterry seeing a lot of the ball down the right hand side where Pools are having most of their joy so far.

16: Great save by Smith! How did Pools not score?!?

Holohan slides Shelton in and the Pools midfielder shows good feet to get a shot away but Smith is able to save it. Armstrong tries to turn in the rebound but can’t connect as Ferguson arrives at the back post to fire the ball back across goal but it somehow misses everyone. Great opportunity.

13: Pools continue their strong start but Chesterfield have won their first corner of the game

GOAAAAAL!!!! OATES FIRES HOME FROM A CORNER

Chesterfield fail to clear the corner as Grant Smith parries Gavan Holohan’s header but Rhys Oates reacts quickest to fire the ball into the left corner of the goal. His 11th of the season. Great start.

4: Sterry wins a corner for Pools

Decent start for the hosts. A lot of attacking down the right side early on as Jamie Sterry wins a corner following some good work with Lewis Cass.

3: Featherstone gets a shot away

A scramble at the edge of Chesterfield’s box sees Nicky Featherstone poke the ball towards goal but it’s comfortable for Grant Smith in goal.

Mark Shelton gets the ball rolling for Pools here at Victoria Park.
