5. Britpop Night, South Shields
A Britpop Reboot night comes to Trimmers Arms, South Shields, starring two of the biggest acts around on Saturday, August 24. Two of the biggest bands of the Britpop era Pulp and Blur are brought to life in this tribute show that features all the biggest hits that helped shape a generation. 6. Superhero weekend, Crook Hall, Durham City
A Superheroes Event will be held at Crook Hall & Gardens in Durham City on Sunday, August 25 and Monday, August 26 from 10am to 4pm. Meet Thor, Wonder Woman, Batman and the Joker, as they take a break from saving the world (or destroying it, in the Joker’s case) and join in for fun, games and a superhero themed obstacle course, which only the brave will prevail from. Are you up for the challenge? Do you have what it takes? There’s only one way to find out. Both the café and tearooms will be open, serving light lunches like sandwiches, pasties and soup, as well as our extra special homemade cakes and scones, all themed around the superhero guests. No booking required. Regular entrance fees apply. Prices are £8 for adults, £7.50 concessions, £5 for children and under 3’s go free. 7. Elmer the Show, Tyne Theatre
Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show is at Tyne Theatre, Newcastle, on Saturday, August 24 and 25. Based on the classic children’s book series by David McKee, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant Show, is a celebration of individuality and the power of laughter. Elmer The Patchwork Elephant Show, features a menagerie of 12 loveable puppets, tells the tale of an elephant that stands out – both with his patchwork-coloured skin and his sense of humour – but ultimately realising that his friends have always valued his unique characteristics. 8. Kynren, Auckland Castle
Outdoor theatre show Kynren is running at Auckland Castle in Bishop Auckland until September 14. Presented by Eleven Arches on a seven-and-a-half acre stage, 1,000 cast and crew immerse you in the telling of a 2,000-year tale; the history of England. Kynren brings to ground-shaking life the story of invasions, royal splendour, wars, heroic sacrifice, daily life and seismic change.
